About Baikal-Amur Mainline

The BAM, a northern twin to the Trans-Siberian crossing Eastern Siberia and the Russian Far East. One of the largest construction projects of the Soviet era, built over decades by Komsomol volunteers. Crosses permafrost, mountain ranges, and 11 major rivers. The 15 km Severomuysk tunnel finally opened in 2003.
