About Joetsu Shinkansen
The high-speed line through the snow country of Niigata prefecture. Pioneered snow shelters, sprinkler melting systems, and slab track to fight some of the deepest snowfall on any railway. A branch line serves the Gala-Yuzawa ski resort in winter. Opened in 1982, Japans second Shinkansen.
