About Talyllyn Railway
The first preserved railway in the world, saved by volunteers in 1951. A 686 mm gauge quarry line in mid Wales that never closed. The Rev W Awdry volunteered here and modeled the Skarloey Railway on it in his railway series books. Still run largely by volunteer crews.
